4 out of 5 stars Good read   March 18, 2006

This is really just a comment about the Mac Users Beware review found here...

This person is somehow blaming either Mac Safari or the book for their problems, that is rubbish, Safari has THE BEST support of CSS of any browser ever made and is the only browser to pass the ACID test.

This person must realise that it is their own poor coding that is causing the problems, not Meyers or Safari...

Sorry, just get a bit peeved when I read total rubbish like that. I use Safari every day and have been developing websites with CSS for 7 years on the Mac and wouldnt have it any other way!

Great follow up to the first book to help advance your real world CSS skills.

5 out of 5 stars CSS from the master   February 23, 2005

It's no secret that Meyer is one of the world's leading authorities on CSS, if not the most accomplished expert.

In addition to his knowledge, he writes very well, and the book is formatted so that it's easy to see where he is taking each design, step by step.

This is NOT a book for beginners. Although he does explain what he's doing with clarity, it does assume some knowledge of CSS. That's not a criticism, just something to be aware of; if you're new to CSS, try another book.

One of the highlights for me is Eric's design for CSSZenGarden.

3 out of 5 stars Mac Users beware   November 2, 2004

Even for a beginner this book is an excellent source of information, but only if you have basic working knowledge of CSS (ie. Dreamweaver experience) The tutorials easily walk you through the initially-daunting code and after only a few run-throughs I was feeling fairly confident about things. The drawback is that working on a Mac there are serious browser issues, Safari seems happy to a point (drop down menus etc) and then gets confused and ruins all your hard work - alot of bugs are ironed out by the book, but not all. IE5.2 on the Mac is an absolute rotter and refuses to play ball. Sort it out please, or I'm gonna have to defect to a Proper Computer, heaven forbid.

3 out of 5 stars Not really for beginners   September 6, 2004

I recently brought this book as I thought that I needed to learn something new so I thought why not CSS. So i brought this book as the previous review said that this is a good book no matter what level of expertise you have. But when I started to work through the book, I found it quite hard to follow as it does not describe why somethings are done. I have working knowledge of HTML and have seen CSS in use but don't know much about it so if you plan to learn CSS from scratch, I wouldn't recommend this book. I am now looking for a more beginner's guide.
