Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Let the lovely Janine take you by the hand   December 14, 2007

(Review based on online version). Desperately trying to get up to speed with revised web technologies, I have spent so much dosh on books written by really bad designers. Not so Janine Warner (mostly the author of Dreamweaver texts). Her websites are visually stunning (Mexican rugs/Californian wildlife/artists) and her approach is gentle and authorative.

From the first lesson you are stunned by the power of Expression Web (I was just struggling to use it as a text/code editor- fool!). You have to forgive her obsession with "the chocolate game" which I've noticed appears on all her audiovisual training courses.

Janine drops you in what appears to be the deep end- reproduce one of her fabulous sites using Cascading Style Sheets- and it's fairly easy to do this with all the image files and text prepared on hand. She feels you should use a split window so you're looking at the code while the program generates it as you drag and drop objects and fill in wizard- based forms. You can use the code to better select specific elements. Later she gives you a crash course on html so that you can manualy debug the little glitches on your site.

Although some aspects are fiddly and require reviewing to find the right menu (she just goes a little too fast sometimes), Web expressions does yield up its secrets eventually. Despite the price this is a worthwhile training aid which will enable you to hit the ground running. Just the price of a couple of black and white books would pay for this course. If you want to sample you can always check out the first 20 minutes of the lesson via totaltraining's US site.
