4 out of 5 stars Follow the advice   October 6, 2008
Thanks to Amazon reviewers, I uninstalled my previous version of Norton, ran the Norton removal tool downloaded from the website, installed as per instructions and have no problems. It runs scans in the background, cuts out viruses in spam without bothering me. The only reason for the 4 stars is that I haven't used the back up tool as I use Karen's Replicator with a Linux server and as double backup an external hard drive. Sorry, I don't trust Norton THAT much!

5 out of 5 stars Predictable but good   October 3, 2008
Notron has always been one of those products which have to root themselves inside your system to work effectively and minimise the virus attacks which you might have.

This one is no exception and I expected it from the beginning.

Since i've installed it it's been pretty quiet and kept out of the way except when it auto detects a virus or a trojan and lets me know, which is nice.

I have disabled the backup feature, but if you have an external drive permanently plugged in then it is probably one of the most useful features. I see little point in using it if my external drive isn't plugged in at the time of the auto backup or im having to put a blank dvd in the drive for about 10 dvd's worth of backup.

the virus scan is pretty slow, but i hope thorough.

Not sure what else to say really. This is a good product.

3 out of 5 stars beware does not find all trojans!   October 2, 2008
OK, I bought the full price version form currys as I had a problem with my firewall and needed a quick fix. Norton did not provide a quick fix as there was a virus that it could not detect. The virus prevented me from updating or registering norton, it prevented access to symantec website. When I realised that I could not gain access to all antivirus websites I realised I had a virus problem. I downloaded a sypware software called XoftSpySE which is brillient and this sorted my problem. I can now register and update Norton. However, Norton still doesn't detect these trojans - its own spyware detection is not good, so I use the XoftSpySE to detect and delete these items.

As I paid the full 60 price I must say that I am dissapointed with Norton. I would advise you to also have a seperate spyware software as Norton is not as good as it likes to think it is.

4 out of 5 stars Does What It Says   September 18, 2008
I have waited quite a while to review this product as I had to wait till my current Norton Internet Security ran out which was yesterday.

I uninstalled Norton Internet Security via the add/remove programs button on the computer. 360 appeared to install okay but then I couldn't get it to open. I thought perhaps Norton Ghost may be causing a problem so uninstalled that but this didn't have any affect.

After looking on Google I found the best way to install if you have any Norton products on your computer is to use Norton's Removal tool which takes every trace of Norton off. I then did a clean install and guess what it works fine now.

It has four main areas PC Security, Identity Protection, Back Up and PC Tuneup. All areas you can tune to your own requirements.

Everything barring PC Security was new to me after being an Internet Security user. I found them all easy to understand and you can just leave the program to get on with things itself if you want. The Backup I found particularly useful, it is only 2 GB of free online storage but it means the main thing I would be lost without is MSN Money can be automatically back up when I am not using the computer. I do back up to floppies but it is just nice to know I have this little bit of added storage online. I do have two hard drives that I back everything else up to but do this manually.

I have used Norton for at least a decade now and have only ever had two trojans which it picked up and squashed. Touch wood I have never had a computer virus or worm or anything which commends the brand to you.

I have not noticed any slow down with the computer, it still took an age to boot up when Norton was off it as when it is on it. Probably the thousands of photos I have stored on the computer. My computer is two year's old and running XP.

I like it so far, as its interface is easy to understand and I already trust Norton not to let me down. So I can recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Has a bug under VIsta   September 3, 2008
Be aware this product has a bug that sometimes appears running under Vista.

At boot up the product will come up with Intrusion detection turned off. The "My Network" summary shows this as a fault as well. Tell it to fix the problem and intrusion detection will be turned on. The network summary still shows a fault. Manually turn off intrusion protection then use Fix to turn it back on and the network summary now shows green.

The Norton web site notes this behaviour as a corrupt installation and tells you to de-install and re-install. Apparently this causes all sorts of issues.

On one of the Norton sponsored 360 V2 forums they admit that this behaviour is caused by a bug and they are working on a fix. They have been working on this fix since July and they don't think it will be ready until early or mid September.

I haven't found anything else wrong.

The product itself is designed for the average computer user who just one peace of mind that their machine is being protected. The interfaces and controls are dumbed down considerably compared to the standard anti-virus. I think it's designed to be installed and forgotten about until it finds a threat.
