Studio 12 ultimate September 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After slating Studio 11, (see my review)for it's lack of AVCHD capabilities, I was impressed with the way it handled DV footage. For this reason I bought Studio 12 and the fact you get Boris Graffiti, Montage, Magic bullets, Vitascene and a green screen which all work very well with Standard DV. I have made a few interesting DV shorts, however, I decided to load some AVCHD files that were left over from using Studio 11 and to my surprise Studio 12 did quite a good job in handling them. It is still early days but I think it just might work, I am in the process of making a short High def film, so far so good. Studio 12 is well worth the money for it's DV capabilities, it is much better than Studio 11, add to this better handling of AVCHD and Pinnacle might have got it right.. My system is:- Core 2 duo 3.0 Ghz CPU 2 gb Ram Win XP Service Pack 2 SATA hard drive for operating system. SATA hard drive for video footage. 512 mb Graphics card. Gigabyte GA 35 Series MoBo.
Bug Ridden and no patches available yet!!! August 30, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace my old Adobe Premiere which will not run on Vista without an expensive upgrade. What a mistake! Even the demo project freezes the program if you try to trim a clip! Looking on the Pinnacle forum it is obvious that Pinnacle have a real problem and it is not just my system that is causing problems. I created a "clean" boot disk using a spare hard drive. With no other programs and a "clean" registry, it still behaved badly but at least it was functional. One day, when they have sorted the major bugs out it will be a good choice but right now, (and especially if you have a computer with other software on it!) AVOID!!!
HD output beware! August 9, 2008 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
If you plan to purchased Studio on the promise of being able to handle AVCHD then beware of the instability of this product. Pinnacle have a lot of work to do to remove the bugs to make this product viable for HD editing. I have not tried editing SD sources so I cannot comment on their stability within this package.
Very good editing package July 24, 2008 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
I bought this version 12 ultimate from amazon the other week after weighing up the other options. I've used Premiere Elements and Sony Vegas before, but I thought I'd give Pinnacle a try this time. It turned out to be a good choice. Firstly this ultimate package offers you special effects and plugins that you don't get with Premiere Elements or sony vegas in the same price range. That was my main reason behind choosing it. Because editing footage at the end of the day is just splicing video into the order you want it. I can do that in movie maker. Pinnacle adds the extra creative dimension that makes your videos that bit more interesting to watch and put togther. The process becomes more creative and rewarding. 'Magic Bullet looks' for example. This allows you to change the look and colour timing of your footage to match many blockbuster films, Tv shows and music videos. Boris Graffiti gives you access to professional titling tools. You even get a Green Screen sheet with Pinnacle 12 Ultimate so you can do your own green screen effects stuff. I haven't tried that yet. I've been playing around with Pinnacle for a few days now and once you get to know it you love it. I can see why it has a dedicated number of followers. At a first glance it looks fairly plain and basic, but then you get to know it more and you find how intuitive and advanced the performance can be. I've found producing videos to be a pleasure rather than a chore. So I would recommend it. You might want to check you have a good enough PC to run it first. That's common sense though.
