Yet Another FAULTY - No Replacement after 3 Months August 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first review I have written as I tend not write reviews, but I am so disappointed that I feel the need to warn others.
I bought this product (not from Amazon tho) and I found it was faulty out of the box (Magenta colour cast after calibration). Some might complain that I should have read the reviews etc. but I did. I took a risk as I needed something of this kind and it seemed a good product for the price.
I have now waited 3 months - YES 3 MONTHS!! I have emailed them every few weeks asking for an update. To be be fair they have replied most times but its just a courtesy "We are waiting for shipment soon, sorry for any inconvenience...blah...blah".
I have yet to receive a replacement...
My advice is be careful, this is defiantly a risky item to buy (some work, some dont). Its up to you.
I thought I wouldn't get a faulty one but I did.
Not advanced enough for photography July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i've had this unit 3 months. but am now considering buying a more advanced unit.
The set up is easy, the unit doesn't stay on screen and you have to hold it in place but thats a minor thing.
my problems with it are that firstly the set up requires you set the contrast and brightness manually. even with 2 good quality lcd monitors I think this leaves an element open to error. secondly the amber light sensor sometimes brings the brightness up so much that it washes the images out.
My main problem is although the images appear fine on screen. (great for websites design but not for printing) You cannot calibrate the printer and are left with prints which maybe way off what you have on screen.
This lack of control I feel is very important as I would like to print at home. most highstreet photo labs nowdays adjust even digital images to give an average gray (correct exposer) so when you are doing high key or low key images they come back looking wrong and the only way to print what i want is to print at home but without correct printer profiles you have a lot of messing around and costly wasted inks & paper.
I would not rebuy this product and would not recommend it for photography.
No support for OSX Leopard June 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Steer clear of this if you have a Mac running 10.5 (OSX Leopard) - there's no support so you have to recalibrate every time you switch your computer off. Really poor support from Pantone given that Leopard has already been out for half a year...
Huey Pro - Does exactly what its meant to! May 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Before buying this item I did a lot of research on the internet as to which colour correction product would be the best - particularly as I have an aluminium iMac with a glossy screen. I appreciate that these displays are not the best but was keen to get both this and my additional monitor calibrated as best I could for illustration work.
When the product arrived, I gave it a go straight away (make sure your screen has been on for at least 1/2 an hour). I did this in a completely dark room so as to reduce any reflections on the glossy screen. It all seemed to go smoothly and the results were dramatic to say the least! I did end up, however, with the dreaded green cast (as widely reported on other websites).
The program then detected that I had an additional monitor attached. Great news as some websites had sugested that the Huey would not support dual screens on some iMacs (the current iMacs have graphics cards that have two seperate graphics controllers on them). I went through the process again on my second monitor. Once again this resulted in a similar green cast. In fact I was amazed at how similar the colour reproduction on both monitors now are, especially as they are different brands.
Colours are noticably better - not as pale or, conversly, as acidic as was previously.
After a few minutes the green-ish apperance was not at all noticable and I really believe it is simply because before my monitor was too red and takes a while for you to get used to the calibrated image. The colours really are now great!
From reading various websites one would be given the impression that the glossy screens on iMacs can't be calibrated using one of these gadgets. I definitely feel both screens are much better as a result of using this product. Also the feature that changes the monitor's profiles as the ambient light changes is fantastic too.
A great product! My only gripe being that Pixmania sent the item by 24hr delivery five days after I ordered it. Had I not emailed them four times and rung them I firmly believe it would still be sitting in their warehouse.....
Rubbish April 29, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The first huey pro I purchased resulted in a strong magenta cast, this was a known fault and huey replaced it within about a month, the second one apparently works however it produces a dull, flat and slightly green / cyan white. This is clearly a pretty basic bit of kit and I am staggered that Pantone have put their name on it. There is nothing "pro" about it, it is absolute rubbish.
