Amazon.co.uk Review As first-person shooters go, Rainbow Six is to PlayStation what GoldenEye 007 is to the Nintendo 64: the most innovative and intriguing title of its kind for the platform. Borrowed from Tom Clancy's novel of the same name, Rainbow Six offers a fascinating first-person adventure through lush worlds and highly detailed environments that have never been seen on gaming consoles. But don't stop to smell the roses too often or you'll end up staring down the business end of an oncoming Stinger missile. You command an elite anti-terrorism force through a series of stealth and action missions. Sometimes you will need to sneak through a foreign embassy in the dark with your night vision goggles on, while other times you'll need to launch a full-on weapons attack on your enemies. The game does both types of missions well, but you'll have to spend some time planning with your team before you start each level. Plotting out missions in advance and positioning team members lends a unique real-time strategy feel to the already excellent shooter aspect of the game. As the team leader, you are solely responsible for making sure each mission goes well. Direct and protect your squad, save any hostages who might be hanging around, and accomplish your main mission objectives. Good luck. --Bill Hutchens

The original and the best October 9, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first ever rainbow 6 and is in a league of it's own. although the graphics are pretty bad what do you expect from a game that is about as old as the console you play it on. A great a array of weapons and gadgets give you the ability to do just about anything you could do in real life. It's near perfect balance of stealth and 'kill everything that moves' give every gamer an enjoyable ride. The only anoying thing that makes it miss five stars is in the missions with hostages the hostages themselves are both very slow and unbelivably stupid. They follow you but take the shortest rout towards you, with a blatent disregard for the laws of physics, 'no that wall wont let you through...........even if you ask nicely'.Other than that a damn good game. Buy it! p.s. you have to look directly at the keypad to open the door.

Perhaps, no, the best shoot-em-up game on the PlayStation. The graphic animation is great, and the sounds and playability are awesome. It's one of those games where you play it over and over again and the excitement is still there. BUY IT!

Rainbow Six is one of those rare games that pays attention to detail! The planning screens are indepth to a realistic nature, the equipment accuratly depicted. The action sequences, although running a little slow, complement your planning. You could spend half an hour planning your mission, and the satisfaction of your succesful execution of a plan is great. It is very difficult, but who wants to complete a game in a day?superb gameplay, excellent graphics,a game to put on your "All Time" shelf.

For all those Syphon Filter fans this is one for you, it definately comes in a close second, one bit of advice spend some time in the training section to familarise yourself with the controls, as this game uses combiation keystrokes to expand the fuctionalty. On the whole a star buy
