Very very basic June 18, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have a trial version of Expression Web that I want to get to grips with before deciding whether to splash out on a full license and thought this book would be a good introduction.
I only use software if it increases my productivity. For non-dynamic websites I find that hand coding in Edit Plus far more efficient than Dreamweaver or Expression and the code tends to be neater too. However for dynamic sutff, particularly making use of .Net 2 some form of IDE can be advantageous.
Unfortuantely, whilst this book covers off all the basics, how to design a page, how to use graphics, a bit on CSS etc it doesn't touch on the more advanced features such as the .net 2 library and how to use Expression Web to do SQL driven / dynamic sites. To miss these features out all together makes the book a bit of a waste of money as they are one of the selling points of Expression Web.
For this reason I can only give it 3 stars although this is based on my own particular requirements. If you're new to website design and need to know the basics then I'm sure this book is very good. Just be aware that as soon as you're reasonable competent you'll be looking for something a lot more in depth.
