The same old song February 29, 2008 If you already have Led Zeppelin CD's, especially "Remasters", then this probably is not for you as you will probably have much or all of it already.
If you have none, then this is probably the best buy for you. Two CD's of the best tracks AND a DVD. What a bargain!
I guess a Bargain or Rip-Off depends on your current collection.
DVD wrong region January 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Beware when buying this. My first copy of this was returned due to the DVD being region 1 NTSC format, it's replacement was also region 1 NTSC. Unfortuntely my TV does not support NTSC, it has now been returned for a refund.
Led down the stairway December 31, 2007 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Some people over the last few weeks have acted as if the reformation of Led zeppelin was the second coming, this compilation should be called "We saw you coming"instead. Led zeppelin fans(Of which i am one)deserve better than this,if you are new to the band musically this is a cheap (and shoddy)way of getting into them,Zeppelin are musical giants, and this compilation fails them by a long way,There are no new tracks on this album and all tracks will be familiar to Fans, the tracks are all brilliantly performed but they stem from the other albums they were originally recorded for.and sound odd in this Configuration. If you want to hear Zep in their full glory Listen to ALL of the original albums and then try "Remasters""How the west was Won"and the glorius "Led zeppelin"DVD to hear how Zep should be heard, and whoever designed the Package, should be forced to listen to Girls Aloud at maximum volume!!!
Worth it for Achilles Last Stand alone! December 21, 2007 Firstly, it has to be said that if you don't own any Zeppelin...what are you waiting for? GET THIS NOW!!! Secondly, this is without a doubt the best Zeppelin have ever sounded, and IS most certainly worthy of any fan (yes even the whiney types saying 'but I already have every album' If you don't own Mothership then you DON'T have every album, so there!).
From the first note of Good Times Bad Times you know you're listening to a classic band, and the tracklist from there on does a great job of summing up why they're definitely one of the best ever. Yeah, it's chronological and contains all their best-known songs, but it's not as though no thought has been put into the track order or what songs they chose to leave off to make things flow nicely. In fact, the 13-song selection for CD1 is just...godlike! Seriously, what other band could come up with a compilation of that quality??
However, CD2 has the honour of having, in my humble opinion, the best track they ever recorded - 'Achilles Last Stand'. Ten minutes of pure frantic excellence that no self-respecting music lover should miss. Also notable, the bright and breezy 'The Song Remains The Same', the hauntingly excellent 'No Quarter' and, of course, 'Kashmir'. Sadly, they threw 'D'Yer Mak'er' on there too...probably the only moment of dodginess on this whole set, although it's by no means a rubbish song. If anything it's an example of them mixing up their style and is still worth being included.
Nothing else can be said. Let the gloriously remastered music speak for itself. Enjoy!
Good compilation, shabby cardboard "digipac" December 20, 2007 Can't argue with the choice of songs (although could have had a couple more from 3) and the dvd is ok, albeit highlights of something that came out 3 or so years ago. However, they really could have done better with the packaging. It is one of those cardboard contraptions with pockets that you have to slip your fingers inside to pull the cds out and unless you have fingers as slim as an emaciated child a) the cardboard soon tears/ glue comes away and b) you get fingerprints etc all over your cds. Shoddy, a real triumph of style over substance (and thought). Must have been designed by somebody who never listens to cds (or somebody with children's hands). The remastering is excellent though. You can really hear JPJ's bass and "Nobody' fault but mine" sounds sooooo much better than on Presence (what a song!). Saw them at the o2 and they were fantastic. Best band ever without a doubt in my view. Do somebody a favour and buy it for them as an intro to Zep and they will thank you for the rest of their life
