Product Description Designed to help you become more aware of your physical condition, Wii Fit invites you to have fun and get healthy in the process. With exercises that focus on helping you to improve balance and posture, change your Body Mass Index or simply relax, Wii Fit uses the latest technology to assist you in leading a healthier lifestyle. The first step is putting your feet on the state-of-the-art Wii Balance Board in order to get an overview of your present fitness level. By measuring your BMI (Body Mass Index), analysing your centre of gravity and calculating your athletic ability via a couple of simple tests, the software determines your Wii Fit Age - a measure unique to the game which could range from 2 to 99. Wii Fit features more than 40 different exercises across four areas of training. Burn calories with the Aerobic Exercises, work on your balance and posture with the Balance Games, bulk up with the Muscle Workouts or learn to stretch and relax with the Yoga poses. Featuring everything from Step Basics to Snowboarding, Rhythm Boxing to Jogging, Wii Fit offers a vast range of entertaining activities that will keep you interested in working out and encourage the rest of the family to give it a try. To help you keep track of your progress, Wii Fit includes a special Wii Fit Channel that allows up to eight people to store and compare their personal fitness profiles, and also takes account of any exercise done away from the Wii Balance Board - ensuring you have an accurate overview of your fitness. And when you do make progress, you won't only be able to see it represented by a graph, but by the changing waistline of your chosen Mii character. Take the first step on the road to a healthier lifestyle with Wii Fit!
Amazon.co.uk The active-play phenomenon started by Wii Sports now spreads to your whole body thanks to Wii Fit and the pressure-sensitive Wii Balance Board, which comes bundled with it. Used together players will experience an extensive array of fun, dynamic and surprisingly challenging activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and balance oriented games. The focus of these activities is towards providing a "core" workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions, but it's the fun approach to fitness of Wii Fit that will keep players hooked on fitness for years to come. View larger. | Track your progress against friends. View larger. | The Wii Fit Balance Board The primary tenet of Wii Fit is balance. Your centre of balance, the point between your left and right sides when you stand upright, has a lot to do with your health. Those without an even centre of balance will be unnaturally compensating for this imbalance, which causes their posture to become misaligned, increasing the possibility of putting unnecessary strain on their bodies. This is where the Wii Balance Board comes in.Similar in appearance to a step aerobics board, the Wii Balance Board is much, much more. Easily capable of supporting weights up to a maximum of 300 pounds, it is sturdy and precise, able to measure weight and register pressure accurately when placed on a variety of flat surfaces. This advanced level of sensitivity allows for both the wide range of activities found in the Wii Fit software as well as the board's amazing ability recognize individual players by their weight alone.Getting Started: Create a Profile Before you jump into doing exercises and activities, you'll start by creating a profile. This is done easily and intuitively by simply choosing a Mii, entering your height and age information, and doing a few quick tests that will serve as a baseline for your new Wii fitness regimen. These tests are:- BMI Check: BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that is the standard used by agencies such as the World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health. To check your BMI, you'll enter your height then stand on the Wii Balance Board and let it read your weight.
- Wii Fit Age: After you've checked your BMI, you'll do a basic balance test and find out your current Wii Fit Age. This basic balance test measures how well you can control your left and right balance. Based on the results, you'll be assigned a Wii Fit Age.
Four Categories of Fun Once you have created your profile it's time to have some fun. Wii Fit features four main categories of exercises to choose from: Strength Training, Aerobics, Yoga and Balance Games. Wii Fit will guide you through the first three with the help of your own virtual personal trainer, while the balance games offer variety and fun to help keep you engaged and excited about your fitness goals. In addition, as you spend time exercising, you'll earn Fit Credits that unlock additional exercises and activities within your favourite categories that will allow you to continue to push yourself. See more detail on the four categories below: - Strength Training: Put your strength to the test with muscle-toning exercises like Single Leg Extension, Sideways Leg Lift, Arm and Leg Lift, Single-Arm Stand, Torso Twists, Rowing Squat, Single Leg Twist, Lunge, Push-Up and Side Plank, Jackknife, Plank and Triceps' Extension. Keep Track of Your Progress Because keeping fit is an ongoing process, Wii Fit also tracks the activities you do the most and puts them into your Favourites category. With this information players can note exercises and activities that they are strong in, as well as others that may need to improve at. Some of the ways players can use this information for are to: - Keep tabs on your daily progress with easy-to-understand graphs and charts. Using your personal profile, you can set goals, view a graph of your BMI results over time, see how many Fit Credits you've earned, check your Wii Fit Age and even enter exercise time you've done outside of Wii Fit. It's all about coming back and exercising a little every day, and the personal profile makes tracking your daily progress simple and easy.
- Quickly check your Wii Fit Age and BMI without even putting the game in the console by going directly to the Wii Fit Channel.
- Allow up to eight family members can create their own profiles in Wii Fit. On the profile-selection screen, everyone in the family can see each other's recent BMI progress and Fit Credit total. This will allow families to have a friendly competition to exercise and get fit.

Wii Fit September 4, 2008 I bought a Wii Fit from Amazon and it is absolutely brilliant. It is so much fun for the whole family plus you get to exercise. I would recommend it to anyone.
Great family fun and motivational - but not a substitute for the gym September 3, 2008 This is a great product. My whole family has had fun on this (apart from the newborn baby, although I think there's a way to weigh him on it which would enable me to avoid the baby clinic and never go out of the house). It's well worth the 70 spent on it, but wouldn't be worth more.
The only thing I really want to add to what has been written before is that it isn't a substitute for the gym, unless you mainly use it to encourage you to jog on the spot (which you don't even use the balance board for). I only add this gripe because I bought it after seeing it demonstrated in a leisure centre by promotional staff who were dressed like personal trainers, and reading reviews which suggested it was a suitable gym substitute. It's a really fun game and I love it, but it's a game and most of the exercises are just for fun. It is motivational and probably much better than spending a weekly fee in a slimming club to be weighed in when the Wii Fit can do it for you and even give you a row if you miss a few days.
If you don't want to use it to lose weight (sadly not the case for me after a baby, but it does apply to my older son) then it seems to be rather goal-oriented. It's no substitute for running about in the park in his case, it's just fun and won't on its own maintain fitness. It's a really sociable game and as some other reviewers have said, more party play features would be good - you have to go out and back in as different Miis to play together. Overall, I've had loads of fun with it but I know I have to get out of the house and exercise as well. I highly recommend it as a game, but not as a substitute for other forms of exercise.
A novel way to help you get fit for some people, for others a severly nasty wake up call... September 1, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Now i was extremely skeptical about this game when it got released as i didnt believe this game to be any good, but i was wrong as i ended up with a rather novel balance board peripheral and a nice selection of balance games to boot. Up to 8 people can track their progress over a period of time, checking their weight, supplness and awarding points/tips accordingly to tone up.
However this game for some people can be a nasty wake up call to get into shape and some people i will assure you will laothe the way the game can be quite patronising at times; for example small children may get very upset on being called overweight based on the heavily debated BMI Index, and as for me i really didnt like being reminded of the fact that i am very feeble in the muscle department and i find myself strugling to achieve a poxy press up, its gym class all over again...
Pros: A nice supplment to daily excercise The Balance Board peripheral Great selection of games/postures/balances
Cons: Game can be very patronising/upseting for some Some positions are difficult to perform and could cause substantial injury.
MUST have - cant call it a game tho! August 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
14 days later - still love this. Such good fun and a workout and a 1/4 if you so desire. Wii Fit is fundament to the whole ideal of the Wii market audience ie family... We all have great fun on this - me, husband 10, 8 and even 3 yr old. We are seriously competative with regards to beating records. And I have had the whole family in tears at my attempts at heading footballs (ahem football boots and panda heads which I actually exclaim ouch out loud when they connect!) I love the yoga - my kids love the hilarious boxing coach - husband loves the muscle workouts. What I love most about this is that I can pop on to my aerobic class whilst tea is cooking - then chill to my yoga class when kids are in bed. If you are looking for a PT in your living room then buy this. The board is so sensitive that if you are doing a particular move wrong then it will advise how to adjust yourself as you are in the stance. Cant wait for the next installment - will be first in line thats for sure.
Cheaper than a gym subscription August 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wii Fit is so much fun and the delight of it is that I've seen people who wouldn't usually do conventional exercises working out. I know its questionable how much you can expect to achieve just using Wii Fit, but the fact that you're doing some activity that is actually quite fun, rather than sitting on your rump and playing Mario Kart, surely thats a good thing? Shame its out of stock most of the time, and its a shame that there are so many people out there willing to rip you off (thankfully for me, I got mine at its regular price). When you can get it, do.
