Cecelia Ahern's debut novel, PS, I Love You, follows the engaging, witty and occasionally sappy reawakening of Holly, a young Irish widow who must put her life back together after she loses her husband Gerry to a brain tumour. Ahern, the twentysomething daughter of Ireland's Prime Minister, has discovered a clever and original twist to the Moving On After Death concept made famous by novelists and screenwriters alike--Gerry has left Holly a series of letters designed to help her face the year ahead and carry on with her life. As the novel takes readers through the seasons (and through Gerry's monthly directives), we watch as Holly finds a new job, takes a holiday to Spain with her girlfriends, and sorts through her beloved husband's belongings. Accompanying Holly throughout the healing process is a cast of friends and family members who add as much to the novel's success as Holly's own tale of survival. In fact, it is these supporting characters' mini-dramas that make PS, I Love You more than just another superficial tearjerker with the obligatory episode at a karaoke bar. Ahern shows real talent for capturing the essence of an interaction between friends and foes alike; even if Holly's circle of friends does resemble the gang from Bridget Jones a bit too neatly to ignore (her best friend is even called Sharon). While her style can be at times repetitive and her delivery is occasionally amateurish, Ahern deserves credit for a spirited first effort.  Brilliant from beginning to end August 29, 2008
This book was brilliant from beginning to end. It was very well written to the point you could imagine yourself being there overseeing it all. I read it through every spare minute of my waking day and found myself both laughing out loud and almost close to tears (mostly during my train journeys to and from work, much to the amusement of my fellow passengers).
It was recommended to me from a friend I hadn't seen in 13 years and I've since recommended it to everyone else I know, particularly those claiming to be none book readers.

Having loved A Place Called Here, I had high hopes for this novel. I was expecting a real tear-jerker and was looking forward to having my emotions put through the mill. Sadly, this is lazy chick lit. The premise of the story which could be so powerful is diluted by silly family tantrums, unbelievable subplots and people falling in love at the drop of a hat. The fact that all the husband's notes lead to positive outcomes wouldn't have mattered if this had been written with the same magical, fantasy touch as A Place Called Here but it lacks any of the warmnth of that novel. Full of cliches and plot-by-numbers, this will pass the time if you are stuck at the airport but isn't worth packing in your luggage

I actually really enjoyed this book. I connected with the characters but just mostly loved the plot. It is very original and emotional. I'm not sure if you could read this after watching the movie because it is so different and I got a bit confused with the movie after reading the book but I loved both. I recommend this and think that it is a book that is worth reading.

As i saw the film the book was based on, I loved the story immediately. I claim it to by one of my favorite movies!
After seeing it I looked for the film online to buy it and came across the book. I decided to buy it because I loved the movie and because I hadn't read anything in a while. Atually I mostly read childens books before because I'm 15 now and I found it hard finding something to read.
As soon as I started the book I couldn't put it down. Normally I would be sitting infront of the T.V. As it was the holidays I had lots of time to read it and finished it in 3 days and it's left me wanting more!
I found the book eye opening because now I have the genre of books that I would like to read now.
The story gave me a lot of emotion as I have been in holly's situation before and I wouldn't know I what it feels like to loose someone that is close to you.
I found it enjoyable and easy to read. I also felt proud of myself for finding this amazing book!
