All Cool as long as you dont bother with the software July 19, 2008 This is a Dam nice machine, its a little slow on big files but, thats to be expected really, im sure making partitions would speed up the time. but thats your choice.
I use it for my Pc and my Mac, ive managed to save so much space on them both, they run so much smoother
Anyway as long as you avoid the software that comes with it this is a Good bit of Kit.
How much is your data worth? Ask yourself one simple question: July 19, 2008 If this item fails today - how much data will I have backed up?
I had 2 WD devices fail within a week and many friends who swear by them. Its not a criticism - everything made by man WILL fail.
Don't lose 10gb of commercially irreplacable data like I did.
These drives are excellent - but aren't secure archives.
Grab a spindle of DVDRs when you order. :)
What it should be July 15, 2008 Got this product few days ago, and so far, it has performed just as it should have (minus the fact that it wasn't recognized the first time I plugged it in, but it might have been windoz acting up). Used it mainly under Ubuntu, and it has performed beautifully so far; crossing my fingers, it will not die any time soon. Oh another thing, first thing I did I deleted all the files the HD had inside, did not even bother with the software.
HELP!!!! July 15, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently bought the WD 500GB external hard drive to store all my music and video files from itunes, im a little confused on how to send files to it and how to view what is already on the hard drive can anybody put me straight?
Strong internally but not externally, and very bulky July 12, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ok well i'm quite a clumsy guy so I drop stuff a lot. Now while this harddrive survives the drops and continues to work, the plastic it's made of it very "snap happy" Basically every time I drop it another bit of plastic snaps off, Im not gonna have much of the outside of it left soon!
However it still works, it's surviving my clumsyness quite well.
Cons: Very bulky (not too portable). Poor external material.
Pro's: Can take a decent amount of abuse without loss of function. :)
Hope it helps!
