This product could go either way. I purchased two of these for two different laptops. One pad is as noisy as some of the other reviews complain (though for me it seems a mild inconvenience). The other pad is so quiet I could barely tell it was running (until I stuck my finger in and stopped the fan).
Both get the job done, but please take note of the dimensions. My wife's 12" iBook doesn't sit right because it just barely fits on the raised rubber bumps and any slight movement in either direction puts it off-center and if there is no gap between the pad surface and laptop bottom the fans are not effective since there's little air movement. For my 15" widescreen laptop it just looks retarded since the pad is so much smaller.
However, despite the size and noise issue this thing gets the job done... for now. The chinsey construction makes me think I will have to replace this in less than 3 months, but I guess time will tell on that one.
Disappointing... noise August 27, 2008
When I first got this fan for my laptop a few weeks ago it was amazing. My laptop got very hot often to the point that the keys would be warm.
The cooler just about fit my 15" and it worked fine. Within a week the fan on the right hand side started doing this incredibly noisy 'whirrrrrrr......whirrrrrrrrr.....whirrrrrrrr' sound that wouldn't go away.
Now because of the settings on this cooler, that meant if I didn't want to use this fan, I had to lose using the left hand fan aswell. (Either you can use middle on it's own, or the one on left and right on their own, or use all 3).
So already I'm down to just 1 fan that is quiet and working properly. And today (2 weeks later) the same thing has happened to the middle fan.

I bought this cooler for my 15" Dell & 12" IBM laptop. I needed a laptop cooler that I can conveniently use on my lap for long hours. I went for this model because of its positive review, seller being Amazon and its reasonable cost. I am glad that I got this one as It keeps the laptop amazingly cool and runs pretty quiet.
I have given it 4 stars because of two minor issues. The USB ports is only on the right side of the pad. But my 12" IBM laptop has a USB port on its left. Not a big issue but the cable gets messy running around or you got to use the pad in opposite direction. Would have been great if it had one port on each side. Second reason being that the width is slightly small for a 15" lappy.You got to be extra careful while carrying the laptop around your home with the cooler.
Recommended !!!

Just converted to a laptop and was worried about the amount of heat coming from it, I thought this can't do the laptop any good, I did my research and found out about this product, great reviews, so I went for it.
Soon as it arrived from Amazon I started using it as quick a flash, straight out of the box.
Well for the money this is a fantastic piece of kit, the laptop is lovely and cool, not heating up at all no matter what I am doing.
My only moan is that it should have been a bit bigger, but I got a tray and parked it on there and my lappy on top...perfect...
So if you are deciding what one to get, go for this you won't regret it.

My laptop had been having problems with overheating. I do abuse my laptop a lot, rendering high resolution images with 3D software, photo editing software, high-end games and so on.
A while ago my laptop started to just shutdown due to the core temperature being to high. I tried to flip the laptop over so that the fans would have more air and clearance but it would still overheat and shutdown.
I was worried that my laptop wouldn't get fried so I decided to get this cooler.
Right now I'm converting DVD's to my iPhone and the cooler is doing it's job perfectly. Although the laptop is a bit warm, but it's not even close as it was without the cooler. I played Crysis and Sims 2, and I even got better performance because the laptop wasn't struggling with the temperature.
I was concerned about the size, due to the fact the my laptop is a 15.4 widescreen, but even though the cooler is smaller, it works just how it should. It's also super light and super quiet, so I can always take it with me.
The only problem that I can see is maybe the build quality. It looks basic, but it's basicly just a pad with fans so I'm not concerned too much.
This is product definitely worth the money and it WILL help your laptop keep cool
