Simple and straightforward August 28, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
One Care is a fully comprehensive anti-virus program, firewall program it also has backup and restore utilities and system tune-up options. I have usually used separate products for each of these functions but decided to give One Care a go after purchasing a new computer with Vista Home rather than XP on it.
The initial installation could not be easier (unlike when I have tried McAfee on a laptop) and the programme integrates seamlessly with all my applications: Word Excel Outlook Etc and then provides simple and easy to understand popup (much like you get with Internet Explorer) when it detects any problems changes etc whilst running your PC. Another bonus is that it seems to take up less memory/processor speed than other antivirus/security programs I have used in the past, so system performance does not seem to be adversely affected by its installing.
Any problems etc are displayed via a simple traffic light systems ie Red Amber Green (although I have had no red or ambers as yet). The actual user interface i.e. changing stuff etc is extremely simple and easy to use and I would think that most home users will find it less daunting than many other internet security products that are available. The other options i.e. backup tune up etc seem to be easy to set up and you have the option of backing up to a central locations or a network drive e.g. a USB drive and when running on Vista it gives you various options to speed up the running of your pc.
Overall, one care seems a good straightforward product that is easy to install and use. I would certainly recommend it for anyone looking for an integrated Internet security solution at a good price with the minimum of user interaction required, with the added bonus of it being a microsft product so it should therefore integrate with all your windows applications.
Good software August 22, 2008 I picked this item on vine as I needed a new virus checker and firewall. I got over my hatred of Microsoft and took the plunge.
It is a nice peice of software that runs in the background without taking up all of your resorces. It runs quietly, lets through all of the sites that I want to veiw, and scans all incoming e-mail and downloads. The only thing that made me drop it a star is that microsoft have decided that the windows update site should be blocked. Strange.
Well, it does what it says on the tin. August 21, 2008
Or rather, it does what it says on the case. The features are all pretty good, but the main thing I liked about this was the fact that you can cover three computers with it. I have a laptop and a desktop and so this is a fantastic bonus for me.
You can read the product specs for yourself on the item page, of course, but what I can tell you, as a user with average PC know-how, is that it's simple to install, simple to use (and you don't need to use all of the features) and can cover up to three computers in your house, which might especially be useful for people who have kids with their own computers in their rooms.
Buy with confidence August 21, 2008 Great piece of software. This is the best anti virus software I have used and I have tried many. Easy to install and has proved 100% reliable. Also, importantly it does not slow your computer down at all.
It works...well... but... August 21, 2008 It's an efficient product, rather than an 'elegant solution' and does what it says on the tin. Ties in seamlessly on both my Vista and XP machines, however it then takes more system resources to run than the equilivent product from Norton. If you have no choice, or its a gift, give it a go, however personally I am a total Norton fan now having seen this 'in the flesh' so to speak.
