Two month review September 11, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I was lucky enough to find my Wii Fit in a supermarket nearly 2 months ago, and have been using it fairly religiously since I got it. I was reasonably fit in any case, as I play squash regularly, but had stopped going to the gym and had gradually put on some weight over the last two years. I needed to lose about 9kg. I'm now on day 57 or so (including a holiday in the middle) and have been using the Wii to supplement my squash games with at least some extra cardio and exercises. I also have a cross-trainer, so I try to do a mix of all three activities, and I've been roughly following the Abs Diet for the last four or five weeks too. So far, I have lost around 3kg and my condition has improved significantly. Two months ago I was struggling to get through my hour of squash, but now it's no problem again (and I'm approaching my 40th birthday). The Wii has certainly been a significant element in this, and it is fun too. The different activities have been pretty fully covered by the product description and other reviewers, so I won't go into details. I'm happy to say that I have achieved the maximum levels in two of the three Challenges, although the press-up challenge is a long way from completion! The Balance Board is very sensitive, and also very accurate, and works fine on the rug in my living room. My only problem with the board is that it's not really big enough for a couple of the exercises, particularly Step and Press-ups (my hands are too close together). However, it would be more awkward if it were bigger, so I suppose it is a reasonable compromise, and perhaps for Step one could place it on something else to get extra height. My other minor gripe is that you can't add FitCash activities for a date other than the current day, which means that I can't tell it that I played squash yesterday. Again, not a big deal but a surprising omission. Regarding BMI, I can only say that it is a blunt instrument, and everybody has to be aware of what their BMI should be based on their musculature. For me, it's probably around 24-25. For a rugby player, it might be 30; if you don't do any exercise and have very little muscle mass, it might be 20. Your best guides for this are your mirror and your trousers. Wii Fit is then a great tool you can use to track your progress. Lastly, it is true that the Wii Fit does not replace going to the gym for serious weight training. It's not really designed for gaining muscle mass, and few of the exercises will help much for this. However, it's way, way better than sitting on the sofa and watching TV!
Fantastic product great fitness tool September 10, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was lucky to get a wii fit at the RRP which was good, use a wii fit tracker thats how i got mine, what i will say is dont pay more then you should, because 70 is more then enough for this, anyway back to review wii fit is great at being able to know how much your bmi is and the daily workouts are fun not all them though but most of them espciaclly the muscle workouts as you feel that your improving, very impressed with the wii balance board very accurate and precise, wii fit is great at getting you off the sofa which was one of the main reasons i got this.
bad points
its annoying to have to keep going back to the wii plaza and then go through the menus again, also it would of been nice to recommened a workout for you, but still great.
good points
youre problaby asking is wii fit worth 70, regardless 70 is a lot of money but then you have this for keeps and if you want to improve your fitness and balance then this is for you, the balance games are fun aswell and are good to cool after workouts.
overall fantastic product, but dont pay more then 70 as this is already enough money for this, just keep trying like i did and turn on one click ordering.
good luck in getting wii fit! :)
Excellent piece of kit.....but not without faults September 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall I can't knock Nintendo for this one, I've cancelled my gym membership as this is so much more convenient. Most importantly it focuses on the quality of the exercises (which will bring you more benefit) and not just on quantity or speed. However, if you're serious about getting fit I don't think the aerobic exercises are sufficent, I always do 20/30mins on a cross trainer before using Wiifit.
My main gripe is that as with most pieces of gym equipment its designed for somebody of average height and shoe size and therefore if you are tall or have over size 9 shoes the balance information it gives you is often misleading. Being a size 12 I often have to stand with my feet half off the board to achieve the Wii's correct balance position which, depending on the exercise you're doing can be quite dangerous. It would be so much better if the board were wider to accomodate this but I guess you can't have everything.
I've gone and over done it!!!! September 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wii Fit (Wii) I got my wii fit a couple of weeks ago and as usual I got a bit carried away and spent up to two hours a day jogging on the spot, I was sweating like I don't know what and lost three pounds in weight in the first week, in the second week I felt a bit of pain in my right ankle, I thought it was muscular, but as it got much worse, unbearable, I ended up at casualty with a stress fracture, caused by my over jogging. My Wii fit is now redundant for about six weeks whilt my poor ankle heals. I still think it is fantastic but I will take more care when I use it again.!!!! JULIE,
