Dissappointing May 19, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've loved the Konami football games for years now- ISS Pro was my first ever 3d football game on the Playstation and I loved it. PES 2008 on the Wii is just disappointing though; while dull and unimaginative in 1 player mode, the game does improve (like most sports games) when you play against a human opponent. My main criticisms are; - internet play is rubbish as the connections are poor, even though I have a very high-speed broadband connection, there is far too much skipping in the play. Defending to a high standard is pretty difficult and the graphics are not that good either. Considering the game was brought out in March, you would have thought that they could have sneaked in the January transfers, but they didn't.
In short, great novelty value, but lacking any sort of depth and just generally feels like a missed opportunity.
The best football game on any console May 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having played most iterations of both pro evo and fifa on all the consoles I can safely say this is the best of the lot. While the latest versions of pro evo on the other consoles has moved on very little this version is a huge leap forward offering control like never before.
It does take a little while to get used to but the tutorials at the beginning of the game have you up and running in about 10 mins and these skills are enough to get you through games but the key to the brilliance of this game is that there is still much more to learn as you get better and better.
Cant recommend this game enough, best wii game I've played so far.
New controls, same old PES May 17, 2008 Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on the Wii attempts to do what the original game did by re-inventing the way we play football games. Using the Wii remote and the nunchuck control you are now given the task of manoeuvring players around the pitch with a "point, click and drag" approach for both offence and defence. Shooting, tackling and clearing are controlled with a flick of the wrist, and one-twos and through balls by dragging players out. There are many other tricks you can pull but these are just the basics to give you an idea.
This method of controlling players has been pulled off excellently for offensive play, its fluid and a lot of fun setting up goals. Sadly however playing on defence is a different story with the monotony of continually clicking on players to mark them tiresome and boring.
The gameplay boils down to; If you're after a quick "kick about" game with your mates, or you don't play very often then you'll probably lap this game up. It's very enjoyable in short bursts and the controls have a good learning curve to make it quite rewarding. If however you require depth, you won't find it on PES 2008 as it suffers the usual lack of licensing, lack of proper leagues, lack of teams and generally lack of deep playing options. So don't buy if you're expecting much more than a novelty to playing football games.
Besides the same old trappings of PES this 2008 version takes the gaming online. However problems that have plagued other games' online play also plague PES 2008. You can only play as an anonymous player or against friends (using the friend code system), if you have no friends that own the game then you'll find playing online fun at first but the lack of an online leader board or any kind of stats soon makes it limiting and pointless. Lag times in online play also take the fluidity out of the game. Certainly a missed penalty from Konami as online gaming could have increased PES's longevity by a mile.
Graphics wise it's not too bad, the players look good and the animations are very realistic and fluid. Some areas need touching up but it's nothing awful. The commentary is pretty good too, its always been the most annoying part of a football game and it seems as though Konami have put some effort into making it at least bearable.
Overall you have to decide whether you like playing football games regardless of depth or whether you require more options and better online play to keep you coming back. If you're the latter then I'd pass this one by.

Utter garbage. Save your money and buy FIFA 08 for the PS3, or PSP. This is unplayable nonsense.
Pro Evo on the Wii- GET IT!!!!!!!!!! May 6, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I first saw the advert for this game I was over whelmed with the thought that it would be miles too hard and complicated and talking to my friends they think it would be too but when I first got it it wasn't as complicated as I first thought it would be and I picked it up really easily. I am not a person who spends hours and hours on end on my Wii but I spend enough time to know that this is a good game. It is much better than other football games because you can send team mates on runs (more than one at a time) and generally tell your team where to move to. The graphics aren't amazing but it does not restrict the quality of the game and it hasn't bothered me. I have not come across any floors in the game yet. I am also so surprised at the price... I thought it would be an extra tenner on top off what it is. If you are wondering about this game, just go for it, it is brilliant and well worth it. You will have great fun on it!!!!!
