4 out of 5 stars absoluely value for money   July 31, 2008
I must say that it is an absolutely wonderful laptop for the price it comes for. From reviews from others i gather that acer does not seem to give after sale service but amazon have said that for the first year, service would be thier responsibility. I must say this is a wonderful notebook in all respects be it looks, speed, performance or price. On the price front it beats all other brands in its genre. HD is truly amazing. the only reason I have given it 4 stars is because of wieght. If only Acer can make it light , it would be an ideal laptop. It gets beaten only because of weight!!!!. I got it for 499 which is a bargain.

5 out of 5 stars BEST OF THE BEST   June 28, 2008
I have been doing research for a long time to buy a decent laptop. After coming to a lot of choices finally i made my mind to get hold of acer aspire 5920g, honestly nothing else could come even near to this machine at this price and specs. Although i bought it from elsewhere which included free acer laptop bag and mouse.

I cant fault this machine atall, it is a powerhorse even my desktop pc is now struggling in terms of speed, graphics etc...

Vista experience index on factory default setting gives overall 4.7

processor: 4.9

memory: 4.8

graphics: 4.7

gaming graphincs: 4.9

primary harddisk: 5.3

after i updated the graphic drivers from laptopvideo2go.com the results were

processor: 4.9

memory: 4.8

graphics: 5.1

gaming graphincs: 5.3

primary harddisk: 5.5

overall: 4.8

there is also a lot of upgrade options.. like u can add a total of 4gb ram, 250gb hardrive is more than enough to install linux, xp as well as keep vista..

and lastly the media keys on the right side can be disabled or decreased in sensitivity so they dont give much problem..

this is best laptop with rock solid performance capabilities and gaming power..

highly recommended

5 out of 5 stars Acer 5920G Look after it and it will look after you.   April 20, 2008

I am a Computer Engineer and Basically it is pot luck with Laptops, If you look after it, store it in a case , have Anti-virus software and a good firewall installed then like many others you should be ok. Most problems with Laptops occur because users do not do this. I have got one of these Laptops and it is very good, we are a Dell reseller but still I went with the Acer as It is a fantastic machine, For the price you pay it is well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars A good machine   March 14, 2008

This is a good laptop to buy if you want to be able to do a good range of tasks including playing games. I have had a few issues with mine mainly around graphics drivers but once you ditch the shocking ones that come with it and get some stable customised ones from Laptopvideo2go you can play any game (albeit at lower graphics settings in Crysis & The Witcher). I have been using mine for 3D Graphics work and it has been working great except for one thing which is either because of Vista, the graphics drivers or maybe the laptop. If I close the laptop which should put it on standby it crashes when you reopen it again, frustrating but not a problem after the first two times.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant machine   March 3, 2008

Brilliant machine.

I've had mine about a month now and I'm very happy with it. Nice styling, very good performance and great screen. Very good spec for the price but if you want to get the most out of the graphics card you will need to install a modded version of the most recent NVidia drivers.

Wi-fi reception is excellent and I find the card reader a very handy addition. I don't have any HD disks but the DVD writer works well and it's great for playing DVD's - best sound I've ever come across on a laptop without using external speakers. The build-in web cam (and stereo mike) is also surprisingly good.

Build quality seems fairly solid, bit of movement in the keyboard and key travel is fairly short, but nothing that detracts from using it. The touch sensitive "media player" buttons on the right-hand side are a pain - too easy to trigger by brushing against them. You can adjust their sensitivity or disable them - I found the latter the best solution since in normal use I don't need them.

The laptop isn't particularly slim or light, but with everything that's packed into it that isn't surprising - at the same time it isn't a huge beast and is reassuringly solid. Battery life is pretty much what you'd expect, a couple of hours with normal use for me.

Acer have a poor rep for customer service, but I always go back to the vendor rather than the manufacturer if there is a problem (know your rights) and I've always found Amazon very helpful on the few occasions I've had need to. All in all a very nice laptop and for me a pretty good desktop replacement.
