Misses 5 stars by a hairs breadth. August 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Good:
This wifi card has a great range on it. My previous card could connect @ 18mbps max, only if orientated perfectly. This card happily connects to my network @ 36mbps. Very good considering there are two entire floors and the card is on the opposite side of the house to the router. The connection has been quick and stable since installation.
The installation itself was only marred by the lack of Vista drivers on the CD, otherwise it went smoothly.
The Bad:
No Vista drivers supplied on CD. These were available on Edimax's website though, and were easily downloaded.
The supplied USB extension lead isn't perfect. The dongle has a tendancy to come loose, and thus render it unusable. However, if it were to remain static, this would not be a problem.
Verdict:
An excellent and cheap solution to home wireless networking where extended range matters.
Great adapter and speedy connection August 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After reading the previous good reviews I decided to buy two of these for my 2 PCs running on windows XP. got on a flying start with first PC, then second PC CD drive don't work ( can't be bother to fix it)so I had to connect with my wired router to internet for windows to download automatically drive and Hey Presto, even the second PC connection was up and running in few minutes! Great product, definetely easy and quick to use and very good connectivity so far never dropped the connection ! A must and very affordable item for wireless connection!
Ubuntu friendly and very sensitive July 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This really is a great piece of kit. Worked first time without any set up on Ubuntu (Hardy) 8.04 and raised the reported signal strength of my local FON node from about 35% to 75% - often higher. Highly recommended.
Superb wireless adapter for a laptop or PC July 29, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having installed the software and plugged in the adpater to my laptop without any problems at all I was so pleased to have bought this wonderful piece of kit. And at under 15 its a bargin.
Once installed I tested the range around my house (three story town house with access point on the middle floor) and found the signal did not deteriate at all. One other good point about this device is that it supports all the latest security standards (WPA2) and doesn't need to use proprietry software to control it so Windows controls it perfectly.
Great - but make sure drivers up to date July 13, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Got this and it appeared to work fine but had issues with the speed of my Wifi connection going from 6 Mbps to 700 kps within minutes of connecting. Finally identified the problem as the wifi card and found that a new driver had just been released (I'd installed the newest driver three weeks before) - once I'd installed that the bottle necking appeared to stop (NB Power optiopns can also have an affect - make sure you have Vista set for "High Performance"). Since then it has been great - the aerial really does allow you to fine tune the connection - and it also comes with a USB extender cable for further flexibility. I'm going to buy a second one for my other PC.
